Objectives for the week:
8.EE.7: Solve linear equations in one variable. 8.EE.7a: Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form x = a, a = a, or a = b results (where a and b are different numbers) 8.EE.7b: Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms. |
Monday 10-13-2014 Students completed a classroom assessment today regarding algebraic expressions, solving algebraic equations, and a review section about multiplying and dividing scientific notation. If your student missed taking the assessment in class, her or she needs to make plans with Mrs. Whisnant to makeup that assessment ASAP. Tuesday 10-14-2014 Today, in blocks 1,2,3 students learned how to solve more complex equations using combining like terms. Block 4 students completed the Warm Up and started the Combining Like Terms template but had to return to homeroom at 2:15 to receive their federal cards. Warm Up. Wednesday 10-15-14
Today, the students in blocks 1,2,3 learned how to solve more complex equations using the Distributive Property. The students in block 4 solved complex equations using combining like terms. Please refer to Tuesday's lesson for block 4 template. Block 4 is one day behind due to going back to homeroom yesterday to receive their federal cards. Students completed the ACT EXPLORE test in Homeroom this morning. Due to this test, students missed several classes. Students who did get to attend math today, checked out my website on the laptops and worked on the Study Island Diagnostic Test that is due to be completed by Friday, October 24th. Please see the STUDY ISLAND page for more information concerning this computer program and login information. Friday 10-17-2014
Students were given the opportunity to complete 3 assignments assigned to them in Study Island. I will take the overall grade for each assignment. Students can take and retake the assignments as many times as they would like to improve the overall average for each assignment. They are to do the following assignments in Study Island by Friday, October 24th: *Real Numbers **Rational Approximations ***Equations |
